Now, this is something that tends to be neglected. We put on
our face almost every day and use the brushes, but forget to give them the TLC
they deserve. Not only will washing them keep them nicer as far as application,
but it is a healthy decision too! Using dirty brushes on your face will cause
acne and spread all sorts of nasty germs. And who wants that? Not me. So, here
is what I do when I deep clean my brush. I make sure I quick clean my brushes
after every use (with just a store bought spray) and I try and do this once a week…that
doesn’t always happen, but I really really try! I am not saying this is the
only way to wash your brushes; there are millions of ways to do it!!! This is
just how I do it!
First, I have a premade mixture of water (about 1 cup), baby shampoo (about 2 Tablespoons), and
a small bit of baby oil or Olive Oil (about a drop of it, not much at all). And you can multiply the measurements as much as you want for how much mixture you want to make ahead of time. I take this a pour a little into the lid of a
container. But you can pour it into a plate that you don’t mind getting a
little dirty.
Then, take your dirty brushes and swirl them into the mixture.
You will notice that the make-up with start to come out and change the color of
your mixture, making it a little gross. You will need to replace the liquid
every once and a while when it gets super nasty looking.
Take your brushes and rinse them under the running, cold,
water in a downward angle. This makes sure that no water gets all into the base
of your brush hair. Making the glue hold up and make them last longer. Swirl it
in the palm of your hand to make sure all the shampoo gets out as well as the
make-up. Keep repeating these steps until the water runs clear. Once you’re
done, take your hand and squeeze out any excess water. Reshape so all the hair
is back in order and not all crazy looking.
Now this is where I do things differently every time,
depending on how much time I have. I will sometimes prop them up on a rolled up
towel, with the hairs facing down, letting the water run off. Or, if I have
time, I will use probably the better option, to hang them upside down on a
hanger or the towel rack. I use hair ties to hold them up, those clear little
cheap ones you can get at the Dollar Store for $1 for like a million tiny
ties. But tonight I have decided to
leave them lying with the hairs over the tub. I will say this too: Time isn’t
the only thing that dictates where you put your drying brushes, it is also
depends on your animal situation. Kitties tend to like to steal any stray
brushes.
And that’s it!!! Once they are dry, you put them back to
wherever you’re storing them! You will be amazed how great they feel after they
are cleaned. They perform better, and your face just feels cleaner. Not to
mention they get that softness back that we all secretly love to just rub all
over our faces for no reason when alone at our vanities or bathroom counters.
So go out, clean those brushes, and enjoy!

Man we just started this thing and we are already behind! Geez. Well, in our defense, we have both been sick. So we are going to post two blogs today. Hopefully that makes up for this neglect!
